Eagle Point Golf Club

USA, North Carolina
5.3 (6)
Designer: Tom Fazio
Course Opened: 2000

A surprisingly unexceptional golf course, Eagle Point has all of the visual eye-candy and immaculate turf one expects of a modern Tom Fazio design but without any of the outstanding individual holes or features. Most of the golfing undulations here were man-made, and while not poorly done they don’t feel as authentic as somewhere like Shadow Creek. The greens are good as a set, and some of the small frontal bumps work well, but aside from a couple of nicely bunkered par threes and the 9th and 10th down by the wetlands, there isn’t much to get excited about.

Golf Digest Magazine says in its 2013/2014 rankings profile:

Playing Eagle Point Golf Club with club founder Bobby Long, a visitor remarked at the artistry of the 13th, how Tom Fazio's crew had dug a huge irrigation pond, piled the soil into a huge hill and covered it with mature pines to make it look like it'd been there forever. "You're wrong," Long said. "That hill was there before." The club pro then corrected him: "Sir, this was a pasture. Fazio created that." Long was astonished that he'd forgotten what it looked like before. Such is the magic of Tom Fazio.
