Golf Societat De Lage Vuursche - De Lage Vuursche

Netherlands, Utrecht
5 (4)
Designer: Kyle Phillips
Course Opened: 2000

Designed by Kyle Phillips, originally under the banner of Robert Trent Jones II, Golf Societat De Lage Vuursche was an epic project that took its developers 11 years to win planning approval for. Their patience was duly rewarded when a full quota of 700 golf memberships were sold before a ball had even been hit, such was the need for a quality golf product in this part of Holland.

The facilities at this club are first-rate with lush playing surfaces, excellent food and saunas and opulent locker rooms in the clubhouse. The golf course is the main focus, however, and this is very much a members course with shallow fairway traps, expansive fairways and water hazards that look much more difficult and in play than they really are. Was once a flat and featureless property, but Phillips transformed the land into a really pleasant golf experience using only the natural landforms and trees on 8 and 9 within his design and manufacturing the rest. The shaping is quite decent and while the resultant holes aren't close to as appealing as those at Kingsbarns, this is good golf nonetheless. One criticism is that there is perhaps a little too much water, with 11 holes touching the crafted lakes to some degree and each of the short holes playing over water.
