In the middle of Bass Strait, on the northwestern tip of remote King Island, sits Australia's tallest lighthouse and one of the world's best golf sites. The Cape Wickham golf course is currently under construction, and due to open in 2015.

Glorious weather on King Island right through summer and autumn has allowed progress on the exciting coastal holes to continue on schedule. Currently there are 14 holes completed and grassed, with the remaining 4 in various stages of development. The spectacular drivable par four 12th has been roughed-in and will be grassed before the end of May, as will the long par five 13th. The final holes, 15 and 16, require some additional earthworks but should be ready for grassing before the end of June.

As the following photographs illustrate, Cape Wickham is a golf course of rare drama and beauty. Importantly, it is also a proper walkable golf experience with smooth transitions between greens and tees, generous and strategic fairways and great variety across the layout.

Planet Golf will keep users updated on progress as it continues, and advise when preview or opening rounds might be available to book. You can also follow the development website to learn more about both Cape Wickham and King Island, and for additional photographs of each hole - www.capewickham.com.au
